Dioctyl sebacate/DOS Features and Applications
Characteristics
Excellent low-temperature resistance
DOS has a very low freezing point (about -48°C to -55°C) and maintains excellent flow and plasticizing effect at low temperatures, especially for plastics and rubber products that need to be cold-resistant .
It can significantly reduce the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the material and improve flexibility and impact resistance.
High thermal stability and low volatility
Flash point is as high as 210°C or more, not easy to volatilize or decompose during high temperature processing, suitable for high temperature processes (such as wire and cable production).
Volatility is much lower than traditional phthalate plasticizers, stable performance in long-term use.
Environmental protection and safety
Does not contain phthalates and other harmful substances, in line with FDA 21 CFR and other food contact material standards, suitable for medical rubber and food packaging .
Derived from castor oil and other plant materials, with bio-based environmental characteristics .
Low toxicity (oral LD50 for rats is 5 g/kg), high safety.
Wide range of compatibility
Good compatibility with a wide range of resins such as PVC, polystyrene (PS), ABS, nitrocellulose, etc., which can enhance the processing performance of the material and the transparency of the final product.
Other physical properties
Density about 0.910-0.917 g/cm³, refractive index 1.450, colorless or slightly yellow oily liquid .
High chemical stability, but may react with strong oxidizers.
Fields of application
Plastics industry
Soft PVC products: such as film, artificial leather, flooring, toys, to give the material flexibility and cold resistance.
Wires and cables: used in cold-resistant sheathing materials to improve bending performance at low temperatures.
Transparent products: such as PVC pipes and packaging materials, due to its transparency and low migration.
Rubber Industry
As a low-temperature plasticizer for synthetic rubbers (e.g. NBR, neoprene), without affecting the vulcanization process, for automotive seals and medical rubber products.
Personal Care and Cosmetics
Used in sunscreens, lotions, deodorants, etc. to provide a silky touch and enhance formulation stability.
Lubricants & Industrial Oils
Used as ester-based lubricant additives to improve low-temperature fluidity in engine oils and brake fluids (e.g., DOT 5).
Paints & Coatings
Enhance paint flexibility, weatherability and adhesion for outdoor protective coatings.
Specialty Applications
Used as a plasticizing carrier in C4 explosives to improve plasticity and stability.
Seed particles for aerosol studies and particle image velocimetry (PIV).
