  • Dioctyl terephthalate/DOTP Features and Applications

  • Key Features of DOTP

    Environmental protection and safety

DOTP does not contain phthalates, in line with the EU REACH and other international regulations on the restriction of hazardous substances, safer for human beings and the environment, especially for food packaging, medical devices and other sensitive areas.

Excellent thermal stability and cold resistance

Outstanding high temperature resistance, flash point up to 210°C or more, suitable for high temperature environment (e.g. 70°C cable).

Good low-temperature flexibility, solidification point as low as -48°C, in cold conditions can still maintain material flexibility.

    Low volatility and migration resistance

Compared with the traditional plasticizer DOP, DOTP has less volatility loss and higher stability in long-term use, reducing material aging problems caused by plasticizer migration.

    Good electrical insulation properties

High volume resistivity (up to 1×10⁹Ω-m or more), especially suitable for wire and cable insulation materials to ensure electrical safety.

    Chemical resistance and durability

High resistance to water, oil and soapy water extraction extends the service life of the material in wet or chemical environments.

  • Main areas of application for DOTP

    Cable and wire insulation

DOTP is the plasticizer of choice for high-temperature resistant cables (e.g., 70°C class cables), and is widely used as a sheathing material for power transmission and communication cables due to its low volatility and high electrical insulation properties.

    Automotive Industry

Used in automotive interiors (e.g. dashboards, door panels), seals and wiring harnesses to enhance heat resistance and low-temperature flexibility.

Solve the problem of fogging windows and improve driving safety.

    Construction and Building Materials

PVC building materials such as flooring, roofing membranes, wallpaper, etc., to enhance weather resistance and flexibility.

Structural materials such as pipes and window frames that require long-term durability.

    Medical & Consumer Products

Medical devices (e.g., infusion bags, catheters) for their biocompatibility and low toxicity.

Consumer products such as toys and food packaging that meet strict safety standards.

    Synthetic Materials & Industrial Products

Synthetic leather, coatings and adhesives for improved flexibility and durability.

Softeners in rubber products (e.g. NBR) to optimize processability.

  • Advantages of DOTP vs. conventional plasticizer DOP

    DOTP

Environmentally friendly:       Non-octylbenzene, non-toxic and biodegradable

Thermal stability:                     Higher flash point (210°C vs. 190°C)

Low Temperature Flexibility:  -48°C freezing point, better low temperature performance.

Electrical insulation:                Higher volume resistivity (4.6 x 10¹¹Ω-cm)

    DOP (conventional o-phenylene)

Environmental protection:     Containing o-phenylene, there are environmental and health risks.

Thermal stability:                    Volatile at high temperature, low stability

Low temperature flexibility:   Solidification point -50°C, slightly less flexible

    Electrical insulation:               1.9×10¹¹Ω-cm
